“There is no reason for me to search for Lady Theodosia,” Neil said, “or to gaze at her with any particular interest. After all, I have no reason to consider any courtship, for love or any other reason until both you and Lady Esther have wed.”

“Until I am wed,” Lady Helen corrected. “The Duke of Brown has sworn not to marry Esther until Thea is wed, so if I were married, there would be nothing to prevent both you and my sister from wedding whoever you both desire.”

Neil drew in a short breath of air. It all sounded so absurdly complicated to him. He felt a sudden and sharp distaste for the ton and all their rules and etiquette. While it was true he had never considered wedding any of the handful of lovers he had in Kent, there had been nothing to prevent him from doing so, no obligations to keep him from acting as he pleased.
